I'm the Publisher of Third Eye Publishing, Inc. In the second quarter of 2010 our open submissions will be open again. I'm not signing royalty deals. Instead if an author has a title they would like to sell, I'll make an offer to buy the book.

There are a lot of qualities an author must possess besides being able to write a good book. The majors will not even consider you if you cannot give a detailed plan on how you the author plan to market your book. Because it's all about sales and being able to develop your readership. In the music business any artist is expected to be able to put on atleast a halfway good show. Why? Touring is how they develop their listener following. Well for authors, signings, social networking sites and other meduims are some of the tools they need to not just learn to work with, but also become proficient with. If not they need to have their own budget for their own publicist.

A publishers job is to do everything inbetween to get a book into its final stages. After this its responsibility is to make the book available to the public and create as many mediums as it can so the public can have access to the title. It's not their responsibility to drive sales for the book. I'm an author, so I know this first hand. A publisher will utilize it's contacts and built fan base to obtain sales. But an authors work is 10% with the story and 90% drive on their part to build their career.

Aboslutely no royalty deals. If you have a title you would like to present for a possible sale. Please send a synopsis of the title around April of 2010, or thereafter.

Genres of interest: Young Adult Fiction (multicultural), Adult Literary Fiction (African American), Non Fiction (wealth, politics current affairs). No other genres will be considered.

Lady Flava.

In regards to authors and their works. Third Eye Publishing will make an author an offer to buy their book. If the title is purchased the book will be published under the authors name. They will either recieve a one time payment, or payments over a period of time to equal the deal amount. All rights will be owned by Third Eye Publishing. What this means is an author may be offered $2000-$10,000 for their title depending on who they are. The title will be published under their name but the copyright will be in Third Eye Publishing name.

The author will either recieve the money up front or payment schedule no longer than 12 months. The company will assume all rights, in all publishing forms, print, e-book, audio, etc. For the life of the title the author may purchase copies at 60% off retail from the company for their own use. Other than this the author has no say or involvement with the project. The company will market and push the book without the author.

Many large publishers and independent publishers buy books straight out so it is a very common practice and one which makes the most sense to me because I built Third Eye Publishing to publish my own titles, not technically to be a publisher of other authors works. I just happened to venture down this road. And it took me a little while to figure out the best program for my company and I. For my personal titles it's about publishing. In regards to other authors works it's business and its strictly an investment move, no different than buying stock or real estate.

We currently have 10 titles, four are my own, four are being bought out, and two are royalty deals where the authors are paid every six months.

While there are many wonderful publishing companies out there, it is difficult to find one that is right for you, not to mention the time spent on the search when you can be working on your next book. If you are having difficulty finding a good publisher, maybe getting an agent is the answer. The agent will do the screening for you and submit your work to only quality publishers. This way you can concentrate what is most important to you...writing.

Scouting for an agent is a job within itself, but if you have all your ducks in a row you will succeed. Get your synopsis, bio, cover letter and first few chapters in order for submission to an agent. Also, getting a good editor is a good idea too, because some publishers are requesting that you have your work edited prior to submission anyway.

Writers stick to writing, publishers stick to publishing, marketing stick to marketing, editors stick to editing, and once we all come together professionally on one project, we can only succeed. If you try to handle too many professions single-handedly, one area or another is bound to suffer and be deficient, which can cause the whole operation to come tumbling down.

Being a author, with a desire to become published is not an easy job. So many things to understand and questions to who is the best people or companies to incorporate into producing your final product, your book. The major publishers require that you have a literary agent, they will not deal directly with an author, unless you have some kind of in with someone in the publishing company. The major publishers go through the literary agent to help do the weeding process. The literary agent doesn't get paid until they seal the deal for the author with a publishing company. Therefore, the agent will only take on author with a book they know they can sell. So, I agree Barbara, authors should stick to writing if they are able to afford and have the energy to seek out a team to do all the other tasks that is needed for their final product.

Jahzara, thank you for responding to this inquiry around seeking out a publisher. Could you please list the services that your company will provide if you choose to sign an author and what kind of author you desire to work with.

Thank you for the opportunity to be able to respond. First, I am very honest with people. My company is a self-publishing company so the author can expect to handle their own expenses. I handle my own as well. It's not cheap. I invest in myself and feel that I am worth it. I believe in my writing skills and don't mind investing. I believe the pay off will be great.

Cost Includes:
Telephone consultation with me. Authors can call me anytime about their project. If they get my voice mail, I will return their call. I do have a day job, so I usually don't take calls during instructional time.

Original cover artwork. You won't see your cover artwork on another book.
Professional Manuscript Formatting
ISBN
Copyright
Library of Congress Number
Free Media Alert
50 Books
Show you how to use OPM (Other People's Money) to fund your project

Jahzara will promote your project as if it's her own.

I like to work with organized individuals, who know what they want, and are serious.

The publishing industry is a very difficult industry to break into. There are so many different publishers and authors all scrambling to reach the same goal. Sort of a cornicopia of talent rolled up into a single bottomless bag.

I at one time was published, but like many new authors, I did not do the proper resaerch that was needed to become efective in the industry. My book was hailed as a critical success by some very well respected authors and viewers, but it was a commercial failure because of bad representation. My attitude also played a part in that. My frustration led to immature bevahior on my part.

It is my hope to find a publisher that is true to their word. A person's word is their bond. The Most High has blessed me with a second opportunity to make my mark in this business, and that is what I am ready to do. So if there are any Publishers that want to really step outside of the box and turn Urban and Mainstream lit on its head, then I would love to work with you.

Shalom,

Poe
